Normally I'd barrette you for linking to Fox news, but this is a serious issue. The Japanese know earthquakes, they can get through this, however, we should still hope for the best. NHK News

Some of the images coming from Japan are tragic. Entire areas engulfed in flames, overhead freeways laying twisted on the ground, watching video of the massive wave surging through a residential area, wiping out everything in it's path, and a massive tear in the road outside one Northern Japan town that was several feet wide and quite deep. www.cbsnews.com/8301-503543_162-20042091-503543.htmlMy prayers go out for all affected by this disaster, for at the moment, estimated death toll is over 400 and expected to rise.

Heart goes out to them.
On the same fault line it seems that fault line has been causing trouble elsewhere as well. Which is rather interesting how it worked it's way to other places.

Hope everyone's okay out there. My housemate lives in Mauritius and apparently, the tsunami might affect even there. Crazy.

The main concern is the numerous aftershocks (some as strong as 7.0) and of course, the two nuclear power plants north of Tokyo that are suffering cooling failures and are approaching critical mass on the temperatures and pressure inside at least 5 of their reactors. This is a sad time in Japan's history, and I pray for the best. [EDIT: A estimated 1,000 people are thought to be dead with 600+ missing as of 10:07 AM PST. Been watching NHK WORLD on their site and you can too for the latest updates straight from Japan with the following link. The one reactor at the one stricken Nuclear power plant may be leaking due to the leaking core, for levels of radioactive materials that are produced only during active nuclear fission are being detected at levels roughly 1,000+ times higher than normal]www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/index.html

UPDATE#4: Reports of a explosion at one of the stricken reactors at one of the nuclear power plants down from the 8.8 Earthquake have arisen. White smoke was seen escaping from one of the buildings shortly after witnesses heard a loud "bang" noise. NHK has it live on their site now: www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/index.html

We're all students - she comes to university here and in term time, we live together. When it's not term time, she goes back home to Mauritius
