Somebody common with the PS3 technic? I would probably use another place for this but nearly everything got banned here at work . . . And maybe does someone know something.
I had two freezes yesterday in the evening. I mean, nothing real strange and I'm used to this from Fallout games or even MAG sometimes. The strange thing about it was: the power button in the front hasn't worked anymore and I had to use the main switch in the back. Every freeze I ever had could I shut down the PS3 in the front - but the two freezes yesterday (was playing Brink online and they came in short time) had even killed the power button.
I'm a bit confused and worried about this.. and as said am I not able to search the internet about this matter or ask at another place. Someone maybe any idea?

I've had that happen once... Could you then shut down your PS3 normally with the power button, after the freezing incidents?

Not yesterday - and that's why I'm worried. Neither the controller PS button or the normal power button in the front have work. I had to shut it down via the main switch in the back - and this happened two times within 20 minutes.
I went to bed after that cause I don't wanted to risk something...

Hmm. Perhaps try turning it on now and seeing if you can then turn it off again with the power button without accessing any games. It could just have overheated for some extraordinary reason.

Hmm.. heard a rumor from a friend.
Rockstar has blamed Sony cause the latest Firmware update - the one that should increase the safety - can cause extreme hardware damage to older PS3 systems. They have directed this to Sony cause their customers have reported overheating problems to Rockstar while playing L.A. Noire.
So could it be the firmware + older systems or maybe the firmware + older systems + special games *shrugs* But thinking that the firmware is live for nearly two weeks now and my problems started yesterday.. dunno..

Could be that new firmware "disabled" power button when the system freezes.

I don't think it's a firmware issue though as my PS3 froze after I updated to the new firmware when I was playing New Vegas and I had no issues with the power button.
Of course, we could be talking different models here. Have you got a fat or a slim, Jjos?

I've avoided the slim ones so far. Actually using my 3rd PS3 system and it should be the latest big version of it.
And Fallout freezes are nothing special. I had a lot of them with F3 and F:NV. But the ones with Brink yesterday. Close together and the PS3 completely "useless". Maybe somehow the same with big versions and the leap year bug in 2010 *thinks*
As more as I think about it as more does it somehow sound like overheating.. Should do some testing when back at home - or maybe first doing a back-up of my HDD.

I had this a couple of years ago, generally it freezes due to: a)overheating/movement (enough ventialtion? uptime, background downloads) b)disk skipped a read (lost position) c) the games bugs, mag is a good example and other large worlds (gta had a lot of patches, still extremly well built considering the size) expect patches for brink as it's *new* /multiplayer/online, but if it is happening too much, i would delete the game install data and reinstall it make the hdd backup (+game saves) incase it is the hard drive having corrupted sectors, a good indication of this would be game files/downloads/saves showing broken thumbnails in the ps3 menu titled "corrupted data" You can actually run disk checks and repair corrupted sectors by using the PS3's hidden "engineer" menu, it's been a few years but i believe you turn the PS3 ON by the touch button, hold it ON, it will beep again (signifying default resolution has been reset) BUT Continue HOLDING, for a secondary beep, then release once heard, the low visual system recovery menu should pop up with several options *pic below* (DO make a backup before incase) Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 SystemI believe the 'File system' is more of a checkdisk, only the "restore option" would delete anything. You might of already been aware of the above, but I wrote it anyway xD oh additionally, old PS3's are not reliable with new hdd's with high rpm(speeds) mine couldn't cope with the 320gb capacity freezed every day until i downgraded to 250gb, believe it to be motherboard/Power related. My advice, judging from the games you quoted, if it doesn't happen more frequently (e.g. every game session or so) might not touch anything under the lid just yet. (That is also true about LA noir freeze/heatups on both xbox and ps3 =patch)

Wow I had the same issues except mine ended badly (ylod) the power button just did not work at the time. This was when I was playing Borderlands too.
As for L.A Noire I've had no issues with the game yet.

No issues with L.A. Noire making my PS3 act up, but I have noticed that it tends to freeze when I play Fallout: New Vegas and Hyperdimension Neptunia nowadays. Either the firmware update is doing this, it overheats from me playing too much, or my old "Fat" 2009 80GB PS3 is on it's last legs.
