Nintendo Wii U: Nintendo Of America President Says Wii U Will Have ‘The Best Graphical Capabilities’[spoiler2=Article]Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has told the New York Times that the Wii U will have “the best graphic capability”, putting to rest the numerous discussions online about whether the console will be of a similar graphical capability to Sony’s PlayStation 3 or Microsoft’s Xbox 360. VB: Have you made any comments about whether the performance will be better than the PS3 or the Xbox 360? RF-A: Again, the point is not about a comparison versus our competitors. What we’ve said is it will be 1080p. Check the box on the best graphics capability. It will have a robust online environment. Check the box. That will not be a disincentive for purchase. The specifics of how we get there — we still have a number of months to share more and to show more. The reason we showed that visual demonstration with the bird in the garden is just to reinforce that the visual horsepower of this machine is there. [/spoiler2] Nintendo Wii U: Nintendo Of America President Says Wii U Is No iPad Imitator[spoiler2=Article] Nintendo of America president recently received the chance to sit down with the New York Times to discuss all things Wii U. During the interview Reggie Fils-Aime was questioned about similarities between the Wii U controller and Apples iPad. Reggie was quick to shot this question down stating the Wii U has been in development long before standard tablets. Were there some developments in the air that also influenced the design, such as the popularity of the iPad? “We were well in development before the the birth of tablets and, again, to be clear, this is not a tablet. It is a connected experience to the base console. It talks with the base console. It interacts with other Wii accessories whether that is a Wii Remote Plus or a Wii Balance Board. So it has very different functionality compared to a tablet.” [/spoiler2] Nintendo Wii U: Sega Say Wii U Will Be Out Either In The Spring Or Summer Next Year[spoiler2=Article] Sega’s executive vice president of marketing Alan Pritchard may have just given away the release timeframe for Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U console. Pritchard was asked if there is a chance of Sonic Generations coming to Wii U with which he replied “The timing just doesn’t work. Generations releases this November, and the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer.” We already know the console won’t launch until after April 2012, but it’s great to know Nintendo are gearing up for a spring/summer release for the highly anticipated console. Excited? [/spoiler2] Nintendo Wii U: Nintendo Talks Wii U Online[spoiler2=Article]Charlie Scibetta, Corporate Communications at Nintendo has briefly spoken about what we should expect with regards to online functionality with the recently announced Wii U. Scibetta indicated that online functionality for Nintendo’s next console will be extremely flexible to suit every developer, but wouldn’t go into too much detail about how Nintendo plan to implement this. “Online gaming is very important to us, and we’ve heard the demands, really, of the veteran gamers that want that. So, we’re going to be more flexible with gaming this time when it comes to online, we’re going to work with our third party partners. We’re not going to have a centralised ‘one-size-fits-all’ type of online gaming approach, it is going to be more the publishers figuring out what they want to do and then we’ll try to bring that to life and make sure our platform can support that vision. “ - Charlie Scibetta, Corporate Communications, Nintendo[/spoiler2] Nintendo Wii U: Square Enix Want To Bring Final Fantasy To Wii U[spoiler2=Article] Square Enix has expressed their interest in bring their most loved Final Fantasy series to Nintendo’s recently announced Wii U console. Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase stated that “after seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo’s conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format.” Anyone looking forward to seeing Final Fantasy arrive on Wii U?[/spoiler2]

there's a thread on this?!? xD
I like the idea behind it, certainly useful when in a family house, but in all seriousness, everyone and their dog has a wii by now, will everyone (+the dog) buy another? :/ ...in recession, bad timing!
xbox needed the new design urgently years ago, ps3 did it just to be cool and cost efficient, but the wii's attempt at ninja gaiden just makes me laugh xD NINJA GAIDEN ON Nintendo Wii U ahahaha xD "hold b trigger for decapitation"
bluray understandable, they're cheap players now, back then £400 was a bluray player, now less than £70, did you read about the nintendo share rates going down by like 10% due to this announcement xD
who's interested? Kreuz you going for it?

Is there? Combine them if you want, I didn't see, sorry XD
Honestly? I would like one. But I'm gonna wait this one out. I learnt my lesson with the Wii. Plus, having more third party games isn't really a big deal when PS3/360 has them too. As for its own exclusive titles...ugh.

Nintendo Wii U: Smash Bros For Wii U And Nintendo 3DS Details Announced[spoiler2=Article] Project Sora director Masahiro Sakurai discusses all things Smash Brothers during the latest segment of the popular Iwata Asks. As I’m sure the majority of you are aware the game is coming to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. A lot of questions about the game remain unanswered though, especially the way that the two games will interact with each other. Anyway, here’s some of Sakura’s thoughts and musings regarding the highly anticipated game. - Internal talk about creating a new Smash Bros. first started a bit after the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii in 2008.
- This was about the time Nintendo first asked Sakurai to make a 3DS game. Iwata realized that fans would want a new Smash Bros. for the 3DS, but he was unsure if it would be okay to ask Sakurai to make another Smash Bros. immediately following Brawl.
- When Iwata first mentioned the development of Wii U to Sakurai, it seems that Sakurai immediately realized that they’d need to make Smash Bros. for both platforms.
- Iwata had actually intended to ask him if he’d like to make the game for 3DS or for Wii U.
- Sakurai had actually begun thinking about what he’d do with the next Smash Bros. while he worked on Kid Icarus.
- He felt that it would be wrong to make a mere extension of Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He did not feel that it would be right to just increase the volume, adding 50 characters or doubling the stages for instance.
- He also felt it would be wrong to just improve the visuals. This is why he felt that selecting to make the game for the console just because it would have greater performance would be wrong.
- Making a portable version had its appeal for him, as they’d be able to do a number of new things. At the same time, there would be limits, as they’d be handicapped in some areas when it comes to offering the usual enjoyment areas of Smash Bros.
- Specifically, Sakurai feels that a portable system makes the game a more “individual” experience in that, compared to a console, it’s easier to make players attached to the data that they’ve built up and collected. The fact that you’re carrying the hardware with you makes for a more personal experience.
- The difficulty here is that the current Smash Bros. games haven’t relied on rewards, collecting money or raising your character’s level. There’s no element of gaining experience to make your character stronger, Iwata noted.
- Adding the notion of experience would pose a dilmena, explained Sakurai, as there are some players who would get into such a game, while others would not like it. Iwata added that placing a focus on experience would also make the game lose its instant play quality.
- What Sakurai hopes to do is have the 3DS version of Smash Bros. allow players to build up their character through battle and rewards, then take their custom character to the Wii U version to face off against everyone. He feels it could be nice if they can make the “personal” portable space and the stadium-like “public” console space mesh together.
- Iwata summed it the basic idea nicely: players would spend time on the 3DS version, building up their character and collecting stuff, then show off their skills on the Wii U version.
- Sakurai noted that as the Wii U is an HD system, this version could offer 60 frames per second visuals, high quality graphics, dynamic effects, and smooth character movements.
- While it is important to have both versions of the game be enjoyable on their own, Sakurai feels that connectivity between the two versions will make the experience even more enjoyable.
- Closing off the little section offering vague hints about the new Smash Bros. games, Sakurai said that his aim with the 3DS version is to offer players a slightly
- different experience from conventional Smash Bros. games. He believes that there is merit in having skilled and unskilled players play together, so one emphasis will be on elements of players helping one-another.

Admittedly I would love to see Megaman and Banjo in a Smash Bros. game, and if that list is magically accurate then having Earthworm Jim in that immediately makes it awesome.
On the topic of experience, it's a nice idea but it would take a lot to implement. The idea of gaining experience points on one console and subsequently beating the everliving bejesus out of everyone on another is a marvellous thought, though, and I'd like to see it happen.
Honestly though, I'd like to see them add another dimension; make it proper 3D in much the same way as Dynasty/Samurai Warriors is. Again, it would be difficult to implement and I realise Smash Bros.' selling point is the whole 3D-characters-2D-mechanics thing, but just once I'd like to use all the character in a proper 3D environment - even if it is just on the 3DS version for experience.

I won't be getting it. It looks cool but I ultimately don't need it, nor was I particularly enthused about it during their press conference. If there's anything I'm spending my hard-earned on this year, it's the PS Vita.

Pass.
For this response I'll stop being an ass and give my reasoning why. Thus far I don't see any reason as to why I should get one. So Square Enix would like to touch it with a Final Fantasy? That's all well and good but honestly lost my love for the "series(?)" and still awaiting for XIV to land on PS3 which will be my last more than likely. Smash Bros? Well it's going to be on the 3DS as well so I may as well go for the 3DS, a new Mario Kart? Well there is going to be one on the 3DS as well. The only way I could see myself getting one is perhaps if F-Zero will be made on it and some other games of interest.
PS Vita is around the corner and it will undoubtedly be like the PSP and consume my life since I'm always on the move anyway perhaps even more so when I graduate. Overall I just see no reason to get one I mean the 3DS has a bigger chance of landing in my hands than the Wii U does of landing in my house.

YES! Let's all judge a game before they've even started developing it yet! Geez guys, these musings are not much more reliable than anyone else's fantasy Smash Bros. ideas. Just because Sakurai is listing off ideas and musings doesn't mean they'll get into the final product. Or even into the development.
Also, I don't like that image that's been posted with KK's article: it'll give silly people false hope/unwarranted nerd rage because having character X above in the game will make it the BEST GAEM EVAR/WORST GAEM EVAR.
Separate new Smash Bros thread may be needed.

I saw that image on IGN as well but I couldn't find it again wasn't sure if that was the real or not. Well I'm bored with Smash bros and Mario Kart, unless they change the netcode with smash I can't play with you guys anyway. Anyway for the matter at hand just bored with those three genres in fact in development I said FFXIV was to be one of my last games as a gamer for a while and still holding to that, need to branch out and do some other stuff.

Oh hell yes. /brofist The WiiU looks cool and all, but tbh I'm looking forward to the PSVita more. Once Monster Hunter comes out on it... I'll inevitably get it for Zelda though.
